7 Days Uganda Chimps, Gorillas and Golden Monkey Safari

The 7 days safari are an amazing journey to Uganda’s top forested parks (Bwindi, Mgahinga and Kibale Forest). Track golden monkeys at Mgahinga and meet the batwa, spend an hour with the gorillas at Bwindi and a night walk at Kibale forest before tracking chimpanzees and return. It is an only primate expedition.

 

Day 1-Arrive at Entebbe

Meet our representative and guide at the airport for your pickup and drive to the hotel in Entebbe where you will have a night. They will brief you and go through your itinerary and make the possible highlights before you start.

Day 2-To Kisoro (Mutanda) Drive or fly to Kisoro Airport

Today we drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park-Kisoro or take a morning domestic flight to Kisoro and meet the guide at the Airport. The two options are all amazing as by road you get to meet Uganda’s major land mark the equator and explore the country side. In the air, you get the aerial view of Uganda and it is quick and gives you time to enjoy the park and its surroundings when you arrive early.

Day 3-Gorilla tracking and night at Ikoro Hotel

It’s a gorilla tracking day. Have breakfast and head to the sector offices for gorilla tracking. The trek can be 2-8 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family that day and it starts after a briefing by the park ranger. Once you find it, you’ll be allowed an hour to stay, watch, photograph and learn about the gorillas before you return. After get your certificates, refresh at the lodge and relax as you await the golden monkey tracking experience.

Day 4-Golden monkey tracking and Batwa trail

A morning to search for the golden monkeys in the bamboo zone of the Mgahinga Volcanoes. These primates are vulnerable and endemic to the Virunga Ranges and about 4000 of them remain. You will receive briefing from the base of the park and rangers will lead you into the park on the search. After you return visit the batwa and walk on their trail to the Ngarama cave. Retire for the day at the hotel and prepare for a drive to Kibale National Park.

Day 5-To Kibale National Park

A journey to the primate capital. Today after our breakfast, we drive in the termac to Ntungamo and then through Queen Elizabeth N.P to Kibale National Park. We will have lunch along the way and arrive in the early afternoon at the park. Check in at our Lodge and prepare for a night walk in search of the nocturnal primates which are some of the 13 species here. We shall have dinner after and an overnight.

Day 6-Chimpanzee tracking and a swamp walk

Have an breakfast before the transfer to the park headquarters. There you will get a short introduction and briefing before you head on for the chimpanzee trek.

The perennially popular primate walk provides the chance to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Kanyanchu’s groups are open to human presence – some have been observed for over 25 years – and the chance of locating them is about 90%. This biologically diverse park also provides home to a further 120 mammals, including several primate species (nocturnal and diurnal) some elephants and antelopes. There are around 370 species of birds, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics.  Return to the lodge, have lunch and visit the community in Bigodi with your guide and a local community guide.

Day 7-Back to Entebbe

End of the 7 days. We will drive back to Entebbe from Kibale. The drive is amazing with views of tea plantations and anything you meet interesting ask your guide to stop. You will be dropped at the airport for your exit flight or the hotel.
