This 6 days eastern and lowland gorilla safari has been crafted to enable nature lovers and adventure seeking explorers to have the best wildlife encounters in Congo. This trip will take visitors through the most unexploited areas that are habitat to several beautiful creatures endemic to the Central African region. The guests have an opportunity to watch mountain gorillas and eastern lowland gorillas up close.

Travelers should rest assured to observe several fascinating behaviors of the primates and learn more about their lives and their entire habitats. A ferry ride on the magnificent Lake Kivu which will further present opportunities to observe some of the beautiful bird species and other wildlife on your way to Kahuzi Biega. Visitors should indeed get ready for yet another unforgettable adventure!

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali International Airport. Transfer to Goma.

A professional tourist guide will pick up their guests from Kigali International Airport as soon as they land. Interact with the guests and brief them about the safari. Undertake the travel to Goma which will take you approximately 3 to 4 hours covering the 162.4 kilometer distance.

In Goma, you will continue to the hotel where you will relax and have a delicious lunch served to you in the afternoon. Enjoy the views of the city while relaxed in your comfortable units. There will be an optional sundowner at the hotel.

A scrumptious dinner will be served at twilight and you rest overnight to prepare your body and mind for the exciting activities the next day.

Day 2: Travel to Kibumba tented camp.

After breakfast, the guests will embark on the drive to Kibumba tented camp in the outskirts of Virunga National Park. This journey will take you about two and a half hours and on arrival you will explore around the area.

You’ll have the beautiful views of the Virunga mountain ranges and the thick tropical rainforests. Guests will stand a chance of observing several primate species and birds.

A delicious lunch will be served at the camp after which you will relax and enjoy the serenity of the environment. An optional nature walk will be conducted in the surroundings of the tented camp.

This will further help the guests to get immersed in the serenity of the environment, reconnect with nature as they reflect on the beauty of the Virunga massif. Travel back to the camp at sunset to get some dinner and rest overnight.

Day 3: Mountain gorilla trekking.

After an early delicious meal at the camp, visitors will proceed to the park headquarters to meet the Ranger guides who will brief them and verify their striking credentials. The Ranger guides will then accompany the guests to the jungle to trek the mountain gorillas.

It is important to note that only one gorilla family can be met on a trek. Visitors will be allowed to spend an hour with the mountain gorillas when encountered. The Ranger guides will provide information about the behaviors of gorillas as the guests witness.

Take pictures with the mountain gorillas and then transfer back to the camp in the afternoon. The trek can take you about six to seven hours.

At the camp, you will unwind from the activity and have a delicious lunch served to you. You know will be served dinner at twilight and rest overnight.

Day 4: Proceed to Goma, ferry ride to Bukavu – South Kivu.

At sunrise, you will take breakfast at the camp. Undertake the drive to Goma after the mouth watering breakfast. The drive to Goma will take you approximately 2 and 1/2 hours.

On arrival in Goma, you will undertake an onward travel by boat. The boat ride will take you up to bukavu in the South of lake Kivu. The boat ride will equip you with views of captivating flora and fauna species that come along the shores of the lake supplement their diets with water as others hunt down their prey.

Transfer to the accommodation facility on arrival in Bukavu. A delicious lunch will be served to you in the afternoon after which you relax in your units at the lodge as you enjoy the views of the Kahuzi Biega evergreen tropical rainforest.

Dinner will be served at sunset and you will be accommodated overnight.

Day 5: Eastern lowland gorilla trek.

Guests will be served morning meals at the lodging facility after which you will undertake the gorilla trekking activities. These will start at around 7:00AM with a meeting with the rangers from where you’ll be equipped with the necessary information about the entire trek. The Rangers will then take you through the lush forests as you look for the lowland gorillas. This trek may take you up to six or seven hours. As you look for the gorillas, you should also cherish the sightings of rare primates and bird species in the forests since they can also be exciting moments.

You’ll be allowed a maximum of an hour to watch the gorillas interact in their natural habitat when encountered. Transfer back to the lodge in the afternoon to get served a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll undertake a community visit to the homesteads near Kahuzi Biega National Park. You’ll carry out humanitarian work in form of voluntourism and interact with the local communities.

Enjoy the folklore as told by the elders of the community and immerse yourselves into their way of life the entire evening. Head back to the lodge at sunset for dinner and an overnight rest.

Day 6: Travel back to Kigali.

Visitors will arise at crack of dawn to a well marinated breakfast by the team at the lodging facility. Relish in the comfortable amenities at the lodge as you savor the breakfast, overlooking the sun rising above the towering rainforest.

After breakfast, you will then undertake the transfer journey to Kigali which will take you approximately 6 hours and 10 minutes covering the 257.1 kilometer distance.

On arrival in Kigali you’ll get on board for the flights back home which will definitely adjourn the safari.
